“Story Undone” is about two filmmakers trying to make a documentary on illegal immigration chronicling the travails of a busload of illegal immigrants being transported by human smugglers. The smugglers agree after being bribed and after the filmmakers provide masks to maintain their anonymity. The immigrants aren’t so eager. Understandably jumpy, they kick the filmmakers off the bus. But the filmmakers remain undeterred, and time ultimately presents an opportunity, when the group, now on foot, faces arrest. The filmmakers persuade the police that the immigrants are “actors who are making a documentary”.
The film won the Silver Leopard at the 57th Locarno International Film Festival last August. It will also be screened at the 41st Chicago International Film Festival, which runs from October 6 to October 20.
